Stop & Think: Creating New Awareness™

This is a 4-hour facilitated team conversation designed to cultivate awareness of behaviors and their impact on productivity and innovation. It includes setting team and individual boundaries to support deeper connection and engagement. Participants create individual awareness plans as well as team agreements that define actions and commitments to better integrate behavior awareness at the individual, team and organizational levels. Sample agenda below.

 AWARENESS: DISCUSS THE AWARENESS FRAMEWORK

  • Understanding that our behaviors have impact, whether intentional or unintentional
  • Develop awareness as skill
    • Activity: Define concept of balance for self and team (workload, work-life, energy)
  • Discuss what is needed to create a balanced environment
  • Discuss behaviors that support or sabotage balanced environments

BEHAVIOR: IDENTIFY IMPACT OF BEHAVIOR ON SELF, TEAM, WORK PRODUCT, AND RELATIONSHIPS

  • Discuss personal, company and team values
    • Activity: Define Values (individual /team)
  • Expression of values and relationship to habitual patterns
  • Discuss communication and expression of values
  • Define hedging language and common workplace examples
  • Discuss complaining and criticizing and how to move to action complaints using common workplace examples
  • Discuss behavior relationship to how team and individuals use the time they have
  • Share work style preferences
  • Habitual patterns at work
  • Meetings and e-mail habits
  • Digital boundaries – habits and intentions
  • Multitasking – practicing presence

IMPACT: UNDERSTAND IMPACT OF BEHAVIOR ON SELF AND ORGANIZATIONS

  • Discuss economic and emotional impact at micro and macro level
  • Discuss mind/body connection to empowered and disempowered ways of being
  • Develop awareness around relationship with stress at individual level and impact to team
    • Activity: Define what causes stress for individuals and create self-care plan

RESULT: SET BOUNDARIES TO CREATE ALIGNMENT BETWEEN VALUES, ACTIONS AND COMMUNICATION

  • Discuss boundaries that support different work styles
  • Discuss foundational boundaries needed to foster teamwork
  • Create a balance plan at individual and team level
    • Activity: Individuals create awareness plan with 3-5 actions they are willing to take to create “balance” for themselves
    • Activity: Team discusses possible agreements to make to create equilibrium for the team moving forward
